The safety and security of Americans is the United States’ top priority. Due to the volatile security situation in Lebanon, the U.S. Government continues to take numerous steps to support Americans who seek to depart or relocate within Lebanon.
Since September 28, 2024, the United States has secured more than 5,000 airplane seats for U.S. citizens, their immediate family members, and lawful permanent residents, and their family members to depart Lebanon, and has taken a range of other steps to support Americans in Lebanon, including:
- Reserving seats daily on commercial flights for U.S. citizens, their immediate family members, and lawful permanent residents.
- Providing seats on U.S. government-organized flights for U.S. citizens, their immediate family members, and lawful permanent residents.
- Assisting U.S. citizens arriving from Beirut on U.S. government-organized flights with on-site U.S. consular services to help with onward travel.
- Providing U.S. citizens emergency loans at this difficult time for relocation or other emergency needs.
- Keeping the U.S. Embassy in Beirut open to process emergency passports and provide other consular services.
The United States will continue to work with commercial carriers to make seats available to U.S. citizens, their immediate family members, and lawful permanent residents seeking to depart Lebanon. To date, the number of seats available continues to exceed demand.
U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents in Lebanon who want to receive more information about departure or loan assistance should fill out a crisis intake form (https://mytravel.state.gov/s/crisis-intake). Friends and family outside Lebanon can also fill out this form on behalf of their loved ones.
The Department is seeking to reach all Americans in Lebanon through virtual town halls, email, and phone calls. The latest information is also accessible at travel.state.gov, U.S. Embassy Beirut’s website, and the @travelgov and @usembassybeirut social media accounts. We also encourage all Americans in Lebanon to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive updates from the U.S. Embassy in Beirut. White House and Department officials will continue to hold information sessions with the diaspora community in the United States to share information and answer questions about available options.
Since July 31, 2024, the Department of State has had a Level 4 advisory – Do Not Travel to Lebanon due to crime, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, unexploded landmines, and the risk of armed conflict. The advisory encourages U.S. citizens not to travel to Lebanon and those who are in Lebanon to depart. We urge all U.S. citizens to take advantage of available departure options now, as the security situation can further deteriorate with little or no advance notice.
